Page rotation in matter files: landscape and upside-down before the portal

A pack with upright text pages and landscape plans is normal. A pack where every other page is upside down is avoidable. Wrong orientation is a common cause of queries and of OCR errors, because engines read type less well in the wrong attitude.

Detect before you correct

Some scans store a rotation flag without physically turning the image; one viewer shows it right, another does not. After correction, check in the viewer the portal or team actually uses. Auto orientation helps on large stacks yet errs on symmetrical pages and images without text.

Plans and tables in landscape should stay landscape - on purpose. The rule is not “force everything to portrait”; it is “readable and consistent”.

Orientation checklist

• Fly through the whole pack once while scrolling.
• Use automation, then spot-check critical pages.
• Keep landscape deliberately when content requires it.
• Re-check OCR after rotation if a text layer already exists.
• Produce the filing copy only after orientation release.
• Report recurring scanner faults back to the scan desk.
